The Best Affordable Makeup Brushes By UBU

For the past few weeks, I have been trying out a range of brightly coloured, budget friendly makeup brushes by Urban Beauty United or UBU. These brushes have such a gorgeous look, with glossy white handles, rose gold accents and bright neon pink bristles.

Three of the brushes are from the 'Smoke Screen' eye brush kit and are probably my favourite brushes from their range.

No.30 - Shady Lady (Eyeshadow Brush)
No. 35 - Eyemazing (Tapered Blending Brush)

Let's start with No.30 'Shady Lady' which is a shadow brush. This brush is perfect for applying pigmented eyeshadows all over the lid and I find it's great for blending.

No.35 'Eyemazing', a tapered blending brush. With its slightly tapered bristles, I find it is perfect for applying a neutral eyeshadow all over the lid and blending a mid tone into the crease.  It's also great for applying cream eyeshadows and highlighting on the brow bone and inner corners of the eye.

No. 31 - Drama Queen (Eye Defining Brush)
No. 36 - Smudged Kitten  (Domed Smudged Brush)

No. 31 'Drama Queen' is an eye defining brush which is ideal for applying eye liner. It's fine sharply angled bristles give you great control and allows you to get really close to the lash line. I find it's also great for filling in your eyebrows.
For a soft daytime look, I wet the brush tip first and then dip it in a warm brown tone eyeshadow, creating a soft delicate cat eye.

No. 36  'Smudged Kitten', a domed smudge brush. It's great for smudging out and softening the hard edges of eyeshadow or eye pencil on either the upper or lower lash line. The neat, little, rounded head makes it so easy to get into the crease and corners of your eyes.
I usually use it to blend my eyeliner and darkest eyeshadow to create a seamless smokey eye.

No. 21 - Under Cover Lover (Concealer Brush)

Finally, we have No. 21 'Under Cover Lover'. It's a densely packed shader brush designed for under eye concealers. It works pretty well around the eye area and blends the concealer without much effort. I, however, would have liked it to be a bit more flexible, as it's a bit stiff for blending in a cross-hatched motion, but for its price, it does the job.

My overall impression... Aside from how pretty they look, it's their quality that really surprised me. They have yet to shed a single bristle and make applying my makeup real easy. Not to mention the sassy names they came up with. And the nylon bristles mean they work well with liquid, cream and powder formulas and are easy to clean.

Have you tried any of the UBU range, and if so, what did you think of them?

Lots of Love

xx

  1. Okay - I'm absolutely obsessed with the names of these. I have to say that I've seen these around but assumed they would be poor quality - but I'd be interested to give them a go after reading this.
