Halloween Sweet Treats





So Halloween is around the corner, which means lots of scary movies, cool costumes and of course yummy sweet treats. This is definitely one of my fave holidays and I really wish we made more of it in SA...

This year I decided to serve some "scary" Halloween biscuits along with the usual Halloween themed sweets.




Recipe

100g unsalted butter, at room temperature

100g caster sugar

1 lightly beaten egg

275g plain flour

1 tsp vanilla essence

1 tsp cinnamon or ginger (optional)


To decorate

400g icing sugar

3-4 tbsp water

2-3 drops of food coloring  (Orange, black)


Method

Preheat the oven to 190 degrees C. Line the baking tray with grease proof paper.

Beat the butter and sugar together in a bowl.

Add the egg and vanilla essence and beat well.

Stir in the flour and mix until the mixture is well combined, forming a dough.

Roll the dough out on a lightly floured work surface to a thickness of about 1cm.

Using Halloween styled biscuit cutters, cut shapes out of the dough and carefully place on the baking tray.

Bake the biscuits for 8-10 min or until a pale golden brown.

Let cool on a wire rack.

For the icing

Sift icing sugar into a large mixing bowl and stir in water to form a smooth paste.

Divide the mixture into 3 smaller bowls and add food coloring as desired.

Start to decorate your biscuits and get creative.

Put aside until the icing sets.









These biscuits are honestly so good, however if you don't have any experience working with icing then I would advise that you first practice, before preparing a batch for guests. My first few looked like a 5 year old had gotten hold of them (Haha)
